I had partial knee replacement (arthritis) in January 2026. Dr Della Valle did a great job. Everything he told me to expect has come true including the timing for achieving certain rehab goals. He has a very calming and reassuring presence about him. Uber professional. I entered the surgery confident and have been extremely happy with the results. I recently had total hip replacement surgery performed by Dr. Della Valle at HSS, and cannot thank him, the care team, and the entire HSS staff enough for their exceptional care. This is the second time I have gone to Dr. Dallas Valle for a replacement. This time was a knee replacement. I am 8 weeks out and doing the same things that I was doing before surgery. I had total left hip replacement in October 2025 and would recommend HSS and Dr. Della Valle to everyone who needs this surgery. From beginning to end HSS, Dr. Della Valle and his staff were nothing but exceptional in every manner. HSS is a well oiled machine. From check in to check out, you are seen timely and with accuracy on details. Dr. Della Valle does not make you feel rushed with his time and is patient with all questions leading up to your procedure. On the day of surgery you are taken care of from check in to check out as well. The surgical staff is exptremely professional and friendly with the whole process. If you are tech savvy and able to download the HSS app, I highly suggest to do so. You will be guided the entire time dealing with them pre and post operative.

Dr. Della Valle did my revision knee replacement surgery May 7, 2025 and I couldn’t be happier. I have already swam in the ocean and lakes, went to water park with grandkids. I can pretty much do whatever I want. Dr. Della Valle is amazing. Also Dr. Della Valle staff is awesome. The first weeks were tough but Dr. Della Valle and staff are very supportive. Dr. Della Valle performed my total hip replacement in May 2025. I had little to no post-operative bruising and minimal inflammation. His skill as a surgeon is extraordinary. After an exhaustive search on the internet I came across Dr. Della Valle who did my Total Hip Replacement. I can tell from my first visit that he was a confident surgeon who knew exactly what he was doing with a great bedside manner. I knew then that I had found the right person for the job. Most people are nervous going into surgery, I was extremely confident because I chose Dr Della Valle to perform the surgery.

Even with this confidence I thought that for the rest of my life I would have some level pain, discomfort, maybe one leg longer or shorter than the other or a whole host of other issues, but none of that came true. Since the moment I woke up I had no pain. I was given many drugs to help with the pain but I never took any. Of course there was the discomfort from the surgery and the recovery period, but absolutely no pain, it was amazing. I went in on Wednesday, late afternoon and left early Thursday morning. By Friday I was walking with a cane, and 8 weeks later back at work. One year later it was like it never happened.

My right knee suffered from a car accident 40 years ago. For a long time, I did not have any issues. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I have had knee pain due to the deterioration of the arthritis. I could not walk short distances pain-free, and the inclines were especially painful. After trying non-surgical solutions, I met Dr. Della Valle in January 2025. He recommended total knee replacement and clearly explained the procedure and the extensive experience of his team. Without much hesitation, I scheduled the surgery for the following month at HSS Manhattan. Dr. Della Valle and his team provided great support during the entire process, including the preparation, the brief stay at the hospital and the subsequent physical therapy. The surgery was early in the morning and by late afternoon I was at home, standing on my legs (with the help of a walker). The subsequent PT process with the HSS rehabilitation team has been very supportive and I have now been able to get back on my bicycle, in addition to walking pain-free. I still need to continue with physical exercises to achieve full strength and full motion, but the improvement has been amazing. I am very grateful to Dr. Della Valle and his experienced medical staff for my new knee. It could not have been a better experience.

I can't thank Dr. Gonzalez Della Valle enough for giving me the chance to reach new life goals. I was struggling with bilateral knee pain for way too long, for being in my mid 50's. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Della Valle for anyone considering hip surgery. He is an outstanding surgeon. Before finding Dr. Della Valle, I had consultations with two other orthopedic surgeons, but I was disappointed by the overall experience, especially the lack of personal attention and support. As a result, I chose not to move forward with surgery at the time and found a way to live with my arthritic hip. Everything changed when I was referred to Dr. Della Valle. I had a total knee replacement done by Dr. Della Valle March 2 2022 From the first visit I had, till the day of my surgery . My experience with the Doctor, his staff and the Hospital Staff has been wonderful. Dr.Della Valle has helped a number of my friends with excellent results. I am very happy that I went to him. I recently had a revision total knee replacement done by Dr. Della Valle. He is my hero! I suffered for 17 months following a knee replacement by a different surgeon who refused to see anything wrong. During my initial consult with Dr. Della Valle, who came very highly recommended by a friend, he diagnosed the issue and we scheduled the procedure. I braced myself for the pain I would endure again as I did with the initial replacement. That did not happen. When I had my initial visit with Dr. Della Valle I was in severe pain from my arthritic Hip, I knew that I couldn’t put surgery off any longer. Dr. Della Valle was was wonderful, I explained that I was frightened because of my knee replacement experience done at another hospital. He explained that the 2 surgeries were totally different. He explained the process thoroughly and I scheduled surgery immediately. His PA Maureen and office staff were great. No questions or call went unanswered Pre and Post surgery, I have to say I was both pleased and surprised with the progress that I’ve made.

I had a total left hip replacement in March 2021. My experience was nothing but positive from the first visit, so much so that I have referred two other hip patients to Dr. Della Valle who have enjoyed the same positive treatment.

I cannot speak highly enough about the care I received from Dr. Della Valle, his great staff, and the professionals at HSS. Dr. Della Valle explained in detail the options of waiting until a later date for surgery, having a partial knee replacement performed in the near future, or having a full knee replacement. Maintaining eye contact throughout, he then said that if I was a member of his family, he would recommend the full knee replacement as soon as possible. I followed his recommendation, and Dr. Della Valle treated me as if I was a member of his family every moment thereafter. He listened to all my questions and answered them fully. He listened to all my concerns, and calmly addressed each one of them. He was able to schedule me for surgery three weeks later.

Everything, from preliminary X-rays to the surgery itself, to the follow up for my office visits, occurred at the time specified--without any waiting or any delays. It was all so very efficient. I spoke with Dr Della Valle both before and after the surgery. He could not have been more professional.

On the day following surgery, he also injected some humor--as well as a very encouraging perspective on my post op therapy and recovery.

In the ensuing two weeks, I referred two friends to him--I was that pleased with his care. I had a great experience, a great result, and I am so pleased he performed the full replacement surgery.

4 weeks ago I had Hip Replacement Surgery performed by Dr. Della Valle and I could not be happier with the results. His bedside manner is professional and he patiently answered all of my questions before and after surgery. Dr. Della Valle replaced my knee about seven weeks ago. I could not be more pleased with all of the aspects of my care. I was always kept apprised of what would happen, my surgery seemed flawless, and either the doctor or his staff was always available to answer questions. Well, I came back to Dr. Della Valle in the fall of 2023 when I needed surgery on my other knee. This decision was easy for all the reasons that I've given two years ago. The surgery went without incident and the hospital care was nonpareil.

I live in Pittsburgh and had been suffering with back and hip pain for several years. The pain was severe to the point that I had limited my life activities to limping into the classroom and teaching accounting classes, my chosen profession. I discontinued all other activities including cleaning the house, washing clothes, grocery shopping, etc. Since it was my right hip, even driving a car became difficult. I have now had two total hip replacements with Dr. Della Valle. I feel that both surgeries went very well and my recoveries have been straight-forward. Dr. Della Valle fully addressed my concerns after the first surgery (leg length disparity) by reviewing the x-rays with me and explaining how the second surgery would equalize this disparity. Overall my experience with Dr. Della Valle has been very good. Additionally, the care given post-surgery, while inpatient at HSS/NYC, is The Best!

I have never had a better experience with a doctor. I have had both hips replaced in the last 2 years by Dr. Della Valle. My left hip and femur is deformed, which necessitated a much more complicated operation that i was nervous about. Dr. Della Valle did an incredible job. He answered all of my questions, calmed my nerves and gave me a much better result than I expected. Dr. Della Valle and his staff were always responsive and helpful. After being told that the pain and discomfort I had been feeling for a couple of years was due to arthritis in my hips I met with Dr. Della Valle who explained the issues and recommended right hip replacement. He took the time to discuss the specifics of what was wrong as well as the options for surgery and patiently responded to my questions. From the moment I decided to get the surgery (anterior hip replacement) until the day I was released from the hospital, everything was handled without adding to the stress I was experiencing just due to having surgery. The speed of my recovery amazed not only me but also my Physical Therapists and a friend who has worked in the medical field for many years. Dr. GDV listened , showed me the x ray, giving me concrete evidence that I did not require surgery. All in all, a great visit.

I am happy that I selected the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC, and particular Dr. Della Valle and his team, that I delegated to him to decide what approach (anterior vs posterior) and what type/model of joint to take for my best interest. It was a minimal invasive, muscle sparing surgery with quick recovery. The medical team was caring and attentive. I was kept informed through the whole process. My mobility is back. I had bilateral knee replacement just over a year ago and Dr. Della Valle was my surgeon. He was the fourth orthopedic surgeon with whom I consulted, prior to deciding to proceed with the surgery. I saw Dr Della Valle after the surgeon who performed hip replacement on my opposite hip said that based on hip X-rays I didn’t need surgery; also refused to look at MRI of my hip. My experience with Dr Della Valle was totally different. He listened to me, did an exam, and spent time explaining why my MRI told the complete story of why I needed hip replacement surgery. He answered all of my questions and concerns and made me feel as if I was his only patient. My surgery went very well as did my rehab. I was able to return to the elliptical machine after 8-weeks.

I am so happy with the results of my knee replacement revision and reconstruction surgery. I can walk without a cane or walker now and am thrilled. My only complaint is that the hospital didn’t explain anything about the wound vac. It would have been nice to understand what was involved in having one. I was a tennis player when I was younger, and despite meniscus surgeries years ago, the arthritic pain in each of my knees was extreme. I tried Synvisc, and Platelet Rich Plasma remedies, but my knees still hurt. I found Dr. Alejandro Della Valle through Hospital for Special Surgery. He was attentive, professional, and really cared about me. I wanted someone who did this all the time. He does. His assistant said, he's not a doctor, he's a mechanic. He made the right replacement parts for each of my knees, done 6 months apart. I had a urological complication during the first knee's surgery that was unrelated to his work. When I returned for the preop for the second knee, he brought up the prior complication and already had figured out an alternative method to prevent the difficulty in this new surgery. He did my second knee, no problems. I did the rehab and he followed up with genuine concern about me as a person. I work out 6 days a week, walk on the treadmill, travel the world and have no problems. Dr. Della Valle is incredible! I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone who wants to regain full, painless knee function.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and lived with joint pain for as long as I remember. I have been a patient of Dr. Della Valle's since 2005. He is knowledgeable and caring, he always listened and spent time with me. His office staff is very good. I had my right knee replacement in 2005, my left knee in 2008, and both hips replaced a year ago (all by him). He came to the hospital to visit me on a Saturday. I don't think I can say that about many doctors in NYC! I am so happy with him! I have recommeded him to many of my frinends. Even if there is a wait sometimes in his office, it is well worth it.

Dr. Della Valle did my knee replacement 6 months ago. Before deciding for him, I consulted five other highly qualified surgeons. I felt very comfortable with him from the very beginning. He answered all my questions, he did not rush me into having surgery and gave me a very balanced explanation of my goals for recovery (not like three other HSS surgeons I saw before him!). My incision was short and very neat (praised by my visiting nurse and therapist). My recovery was much faster that I anticipated. I had a terrific experience with him. Without a doubt, he is one of the best out there...

Dr. Della Valle is the BEST REVISION SURGEON in the area. I had a hip replacement 2.5 years before seeing Dr. Della Valle. Although I continued to have pain, slowly decreasing leg length, and increasing distortion of my walk on that side, my original doctor kept telling me that everything was fine. On my husband's insistence (I didn't want anything to do with doctors yet again) I saw Dr. Della Valle. We did have to wait since he was working on an emergency, but the staff made sure we would be seen asap. The doctor knew immediately what was wrong. He insisted revision surgery needed to be done quickly before any more damage was done internally. Surgery went very well, the incision repair is a neat as a pin (unlike the previous one), surgery pain was minimal, and especially the pain of 2.5 years is completely gone! I needed his skills. Revision replacement cannot be done by every doctor. If you have a revision issue you can't do better than Dr. Gonzalez Della Valle.

My experience with the doctor and the office was very positive. When I was told I needed a hip replacement, I saw three surgeons before deciding for Dr. Della Valle. He made me feel very comfortable, answered all my questions, he was caring and very professional. I stayed in the hospital two days before going to rehab. My incision was small, clean and all the nurses in rehab complemented it. I recovered faster than I expected. No more pain! I already recommended him to two friends.

Dr. Della Valle performed my hip replacement last April. I was referred to him by a friend who had a great experience at HSS. He is specially qualified to handle unique and complex cases like mine. I had been to other doctors who due to my young age (under 30) were perplexed by my situation and made me feel very uncomfortable and like my issue was not resolvable; Dr. Della Valle was very informative, told me the bottom line and we established an action plan. Though he's is not a warm and fuzzy type--he is busy and very concise, but his style was respectful and professional. After the surgery he came to check in on me every night I was in the hospital. In addition HSS is one of the best hospitals in the world, very clean, pleasant and knowledgeable staff, they make you feel at ease. His receptionist at that time was terrible though (Veronica), needs to improve her communication and I constantly had to stay on her case for paperwork. Despite that I would highly recommend Dr. Della Valle!

Six years ago I needed a complete hip replacement, Dr. Della Valle was my surgeon.Never had a pain after surgery, it was likea miracle to be able to walk without pain. Seven weeks ago I had the other hip changed.Again, Dr. Della Valle was there for me, walking a little the same day of surgery. Both hips are in perfect condition.

Dr. Gonzalez De La Valle was my second opinion doctor. The first told me I needed both hips and both knees replaced, wanted to do it right away, intervals of 2 weeks apart for the hips. Dr. Gonzalez agreed the hips needed replacement, and one knee, but since I wasn't in a lot of pain in the knees, he said it was my decision. I had my hips replaced 3 months apart, I was in unbearable pain before the surgeries, difficulty walking and performing daily activities. It's been a year since the first operation, I am able to walk 2 miles plus, and lead a normal life, almost pain free. The knees are still holding.

I have known Dr. "D" for 16 years and had my hips either replaced or revised. We found him after a resurfacing by another doctor failed and he put me back together good as new. After 16 years of use that same joint simply wore out and he did a revision. I cannot say enough good things about him and his staff. I hope you never need him but if you do there's none better in every way.

When I had my initial appointment with him, I was in extreme pain and frustrated by the failure of other physicians to diagnose the cause of my pain. He was kind and very compassionate. Dr. GDV replaced both my hips 18 months apart. I am extremely pleased with both the process and the results. Dr GDV thoroughly explained the surgery and was helpful in my post-op recovery. I had a knee replacement not by Dr. DellaValle. I continued spinning classes. On the way to my father's funeral I found myself falling down and broke my femur. I came to HSS by ambulance and met Dr. DellaValle. My knee and femur were a mess. Dr fixed my femur with screws. After 3 months he put in another knee replacement because the first was compromised from the fall. He is a saint for putting me back together, I spin no more but play lots of golf. I am indebted to him for my quality of life

Dr. Della Valle performed revision surgery on my right knee replacement on 8/22/18. My original right knee replacement (done by another doctor)was off track. My right knee suffered from a car accident 40 years ago. For a long time, I did not have any issues. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I have had knee pain due to the deterioration of the arthritis. I could not walk short distances pain-free, and the inclines were especially painful. After trying non-surgical solutions, I met Dr. Della Valle in January 2025. He recommended total knee replacement and clearly explained the procedure and the extensive experience of his team. Without much hesitation, I scheduled the surgery for the following month at HSS Manhattan. Dr. Della Valle and his team provided great support during the entire process, including the preparation, the brief stay at the hospital and the subsequent physical therapy. The surgery was early in the morning and by late afternoon I was at home, standing on my legs (with the help of a walker). The subsequent PT process with the HSS rehabilitation team has been very supportive and I have now been able to get back on my bicycle, in addition to walking pain-free. I still need to continue with physical exercises to achieve full strength and full motion, but the improvement has been amazing. I am very grateful to Dr. Della Valle and his experienced medical staff for my new knee. It could not have been a better experience.

Before finding Dr. Della Valle, I had visits with two other orthopedic surgeons. I was disappointed with the overall experience including their lack of personal attention and support. As a result, I chose not to pursue hip surgery at the time and to find a way to live with my arthritic hip.

It wasn't until I was referred to and met with Dr. Della Valle that everything changed. He politely listened to my concerns, he was attentive to my needs, he patiently answered all of my questions and determined the best course of action for me to take. I realized there was plenty of hope to return to the activities I enjoy.

His entire staff and HSS team all provided me with the proper preparation, care, and comfort I needed before, during and after my total Hip Replacement Surgery. Office Manager Crystal was helpful and prompt with getting answers to my questions and documents I needed; at HSS Felicia and the staff were also terrific.

After 7 weeks post-op, my hip was already feeling stronger. After several months, I returned to many of my favorite activities. I am now jogging again with my daughters and I am amazed at the improvement of my hip! Of course I will recommend Dr. Della Valle to family and friends who may need similar procedures in the future and I won't hesitate to return if my other hip eventually gives out. I am both happy and fortunate that I was referred to Dr. Della Valle for my hip surgery.

After suffering with bone on bone pain for quite some time, I scheduled my Knee Replacement with Dr. Della Valle. His care, his expertise and his professionalism was incredible. I had full knee replacement and was able to dance at a wedding I attended 8 weeks after surgery. Between his skill and my hard work, I am now pain free.

Dr. Della Valle has a professional yet personable bedside manner. He explained all the options to me, three in total, and then told me if I was a member of his family he would recommend I pursue one of those options.

I followed his advice, and he did a marvelous job as my surgeon. Within a month I was living life fully, without any pain. A few months later, I was trekking for gorillas among the steep hills and small mountains of Uganda with my new knee replacement—again without any pain.

I was having pain in my right hip and right knee for many years. I was reluctant to address the situation because of a previous knee replacement (at a different hospital) that did not go well and put off a consultation until I could barely walk. I was advised to see Dr. Della Valle and his team to discuss the situation.

Dr. Della Valle listened carefully as I explained my history and fear of surgery and the possibility of a repeat incidence. His calm manner and detailed explanation of how he would handle my hip and knee problems helped put me at ease. He further advised me to correct the hip first and the knee second. The day of my Hip Replacement Surgery went as planned and my overnight stay was excellent - the entire HSS staff was very attentive and helpful from “check-in to check-out”.

I was up and walking with a minimum of pain shortly after surgery and did not require much pain medication. Dr. Della Valle's team set up home therapy for the first 2 weeks with a smooth transition to outpatient afterwards.

I had Hip Replacement Surgery at HSS in 2016. For some time I had been unable to walk even a half block without excessive pain. Thanks however to Dr. Della Valle's wonderful skill and expertise, and that of his team, the outcome of my hip replacement continues to be excellent. I am now able to walk several miles pain-free. It was very important for me to have had thorough preparation for what to expect pre and post-surgery throughout the process, and Dr. Della Valle and staff were always available to resolve any issues with concern and competence.

It was love at first sight. Well, that is going too far, but I knew pretty quickly that I wanted Dr. Della Valle to be my knee replacement surgeon. His experience and stats are clearly exceptional and that should be enough, but it was his quiet, friendly confidence that really won me over.

I would not be writing this review, however, if it were not for the actual surgery.

First, the pain has been minimal. i credit that to the entire team. Second, my recovery has been much faster than I had hoped for. I was walking without a walker within days and without a cane within two weeks. Third, I have strength and mobility that I have not had since I can remember. My balance and endurance are all much better. I no longer dread outings that involve walking or standing and I am only 7 weeks post surgery. This has to be all credited to Dr. Della Valle and his team. If you are reading this and trying to make the decision to have your knee replaced, I strongly urge you to consult (and go with) Dr. Delle Valle. I. couldn't be happier.

I love my new hip! I just had full Hip Replacement Surgery and I wish I had done it earlier. A couple of weeks before Dr Della Valle replaced my hip a work colleague told me that others he knew who had had Hip Replacement Surgery confessed that they should have done it two years sooner. You can add me to the list! Four weeks after surgery I could walk 1.5 miles with no pain. Prior to my surgery Dr. Della Valle explained his preparation and approach. He explained that while X-Rays provide a good idea of my condition he would not know the crucial details until surgery. He described how he would be prepared with plans A, B & C and that he would implement the plan that would deliver the best outcome for me based on the conditions he found. Consequently, I felt very confident, relaxed and optimistic on the day of my surgery. My experience with Dr Della Valle has been excellent before, during and after surgery. At my initial appointment before surgery he took time to carefully and clearly describe why I had pain and limited movement in my right hip. On the morning of surgery, he thoroughly reviewed what was going to happen and graciously answered my wife's questions. Post-surgery he visited me several times in my hospital room to describe how the surgery went, explain the recovery process and answer questions. Over the past year my hip deteriorated to the point where I could barely walk. I could no longer sail my boat, ride my bike, or run around and play with my grandchildren. After several surgeries with no improvement Dr Della Valle performed a TKR on my left knee. The only regret I have is that I did not know about him sooner.
